I will go step by step so this will be a long guide. We hope to have your support and patience through this experiment as well as subsequent changes towards the path of making a better overall matchmaking system.
We have enough data to form matches that cause you to have an even chance to win by carefully choosing the opponents that have a similar makeup. Players must play 10 trial games for the system to calibrate their MMR. The difference between experience measured by the number of games played between the least experienced player and the most experienced player is minimized.
Parties with any player below the matches played requirement will not be able to queue for ranked matches. Any player who abandons will automatically receive a loss, regardless of the match's outcome.
At a base level, we think mathematically we are able to have high confidence that playing with a friend will not have a material effect on your average mmr value with a properly balanced matchmaker.
Co-op bot matches are always played in All Pick mode. The discrepancy in skill between the most and least skilled player in the match is minimized.
Dota 2 Keeps noting your result and performance in all normal matches. If we end up keeping this feature in the future, there will be a separate calibration phase for each one. In these examples, I will explain only considering you Win in Ranked Match.
